Identical in overall shape to Leiaster leach, Leiaster coriaceous has typically a two color pattern: red and grey or red and cream. The individual plates are often very visible.

So far, Leiaster coriaceous has only been observed in Dhofar, where it is relatively common. World wide, it has an Indo-Pacific distribution.

A beautiful, brightly colored starfish. Like many members of the Linckia and Leiaster genera, L. coriaceous can reproduces asexually by autotomy of arms. Incomplete specimens with one, two or even three missing arms are not unusual.
