Holothuria hilla is easily identified by its coloration pattern, brownish with large yellow triangular papillae. It is relatively common along the Sea of Oman coral communities, where it hides under boulders during the day. On covered days, or in deeper water, it may be found moving around in the open, even during the day.

Holothuria hilla is a typical aspidochirote sea cucumber, feeding on sediment rich in organic matter. It remains often completely or partially hidden under rocks, boulders and overhangs from which it is very difficult to extract.
