This beautiful ophiuroid is characterized by a disk adorned with five pairs of a black and white tree like pattern on a light brown background originating from the base of each arm. The arms of Ophiomastix venosa are covered with regularly distributed enlarged spines looking like large clubs.

In Oman only two specimens were observed in Dhofar. Worldwide it seems restricted to the Western Indian Ocean.
